We were so fortunate to celebrate our 175th year with the installation of Senior Cantor Lucy Fishbein in the spring and the consecration of our new Howard J. Cooperman Torah dedicated by the Cooperman family in the fall. While there were additional milestone events planned, we did not know that a week later devastation would hit Israel and our Jewish world. Since October 7th, our attention, learning, focus and hearts have been with the people of Israel. With this in mind, we have decided that it is not the right moment to hold a big gala celebration that was planned for May 2. We will certainly find a time in the coming year to still celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of our 175 years of sacred community.
Instead, we will be commemorating Israel's Independence Day, Yom Ha'atzmaut, as a community on May 10th. This year's celebration feels especially important as we mark Israel's resilience and hope during such a difficult period of Jewish history. In addition to a special Shabbat service in Israel's honor, we are delighted to be able to bring one of the most popular Israeli musicians of our time, Noa, to our community.
