Dear TBJ Family,
As we continue to navigate the unfolding war in Israel from afar, so many of us are yearning for ways to continue to help. We have, and will continue, to come together to show our steadfast support and solidarity, as well as financially supporting organizations who are providing on-the-ground humanitarian support to the IDF and the innocent victims of the atrocities of this conflict. As the war continues to progress, we are entering the next stage in how we can best help.
The demonstration of US government support so far has been tremendous. Yet, this is a marathon, not a sprint, and continued US support will be critical to Israel’s response to Hamas, and her ability to defend herself. As this war continues in unprecedented ways, including the tragic loss of innocent life, we know this support of Israel will undoubtedly waver.
We are uniquely positioned as American citizens with the ability to lobby our government to stand with Israel. Therefore, the next step is to begin to incorporate political activism into our communal response, thanking our elected officials for their support, and urging them to continue to do so. We cannot assume support for Israel. Now is the time to use our collective voices to both advocate loudly and, just as importantly, to express our deep appreciation and thanks for these actions.
There are a few ways to act: - For immediate action, and to stay up to date on current legislation, AIPAC has set up a 45-second action by texting “ISRAEL” to 24722 to reach out to your member of Congress, Senators, and President Biden. Once you send the text, you can follow the steps when prompted. By subscribing, you will continue to receive updates and most current prompts.
- For something more tangible, we urge you and your families to write directly to our elected officials. Click here for a sample letter to help guide your writing, either via mail, email, or phone. If you live outside the Essex/Morris/Union congressional districts, please find your elected officials here.
Over the coming days, we will continue to keep you updated on critical legislation and new efforts to advocate for Israel. With prayers for peace,
Rabbi Matthew D. Gewirtz Rabbi Karen Glazer Perolman Rabbi Leah H. Sternberg Cantor Lucy B. Fishbein Cantor Howard M. Stahl Marc Rothstein, Executive Director Karen Feldman, President
